I feel deeply respected in Katie’s classes. As a fat person, it’s a challenge to find yoga and movement classes where my body can be welcomed in the various postures; and as a person with chronic pain, it can be hard to find spaces where I feel supported to push when I can and rest when I need to. Even though Katie’s body and experience are different than mine, I feel very welcomed by her to move in ways and at paces that work for me. She offers variations to postures so seamlessly than I never have to feel like choosing one posture over another is choosing the “easy” option, just one option of many. I leave class with deeper breath and more resiliency than I came in with.

I’m so grateful to have crossed paths with Katie in 2020. Restful yoga practices have been crucial to my wellbeing the past few years and the benefits of her yin and restorative classes have been immeasurable for me. Many times, I’ve just needed rest, so maybe I’ve fallen asleep in a restorative pose or two, but practicing yoga nidra over time has been helpful too. I’m generally a terrible sleeper, but after some time with yoga nidra I find that I’m not awake as much in the night and I think I’m getting deeper sleep most of the time.

Katie takes such care with her students to make sure everyone has the alternative they need. Virtual classes are safe and so convenient — I especially appreciate how many live offerings Katie has because I find it so much easier to get to a live class than to make myself start a recording. I would wholeheartedly recommend Katie’s classes to anyone seeking rest — you will find it.

I have been practicing with Katie since early 2020 and highly recommend her online studio. I can practice in the comfort at home and attend a range of classes both live and recorded 2-4 times a week. Katie’s yoga courses have been invaluable in cultivating mindful rest, relaxation, and injury prevention. I love the mix of classes and find Katie builds an accessible and inclusive space for all participants.

I live with chronic pain and illness that can make participating in a yoga classes a bit nerve wracking and sometimes even harmful, because I can so easily flare up my symptoms or feel pushed to go beyond my capacity. And so I hadn’t taken a class for years, but when things moved online during the pandemic I knew I wanted to try again. In the very first class I had with Katie I felt like this was a space where not only was I welcome, but that the principle of welcoming all bodies and abilities into the practice was actually centered. Lots of classes claim to be something along the lines of gentle, inclusive, accessible and/or trauma informed, but in my experience Katie really achieves this, in a way that feels like an authentic extension of who she is and how she relates to the tradition of yoga rather than like something tagged on or secondary.

Katie’s classes are such a warm, supportive space that I feel like I can really sink into the practice more deeply than I can do on my own. I love that I can practice in my own home, but also feel part of a community led by someone who genuinely wants us to experience yoga in a way that works for us, in all of our varied needs and experiences. In her classes you actually feel, in your bones, the permission to adjust movements and shapes in ways that are supportive of where you’re at in that moment, and it has actually made me feel differently in my body – instead of being frustrated about what I can’t do or pushing myself in ways that aren’t helpful, I’ve gained a lot of confidence in my ability to listen to my body and adjust poses so that I can really feel nourished by the practice. Guided by Katie’s kind and open-hearted teaching, I come home to the mat and to myself again and again, and it’s such a gift.

You attend to my physical movement needs and provide interesting variety. At first I took up yoga so I could hold my arms up long enough to get my hair pinned up off my face. Now you’ve enabled me to walk again. Perhaps the best thing is that I am able to do any household chore or daily activity - bending, twisting, reaching - and come away without any aches or pains. You’ve also helped me learn to relax, which is useful during these stressful days.
